Stoneware Vase by Claude Champy – La Borne – Circa 2000 – Era Debril Joulia Astoul.
A stoneware vase glazed in celadon and green tones. The work of the material plays on the shapes, the hollows, the openings. The inspiration is brutalist. It's typical of the La Borne's work. The piece is exceptional.
One of the greatest French ceramists of La Borne, Claude Champy studied in the Ecole des métiers d'art in Paris from 1964 to 1968, which has now become the Ecole nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art. Champy made use of this infrastructure to carry out hundreds of enamel tests. His meeting with Pierre Mestre was a turning point for him. He learns to fire at 1300 degrees. His meetings with Yves Mohy, Jean Linard, Anne Kjærsgaard, Elisabeth Joulia, Rémi Bonhert, Hildegund Schlichenmaier, Vassil Ivanoff, Jean and Jacqueline Lerat were significant.
