Roland Zobel
Roland Zobel was born in Fort-de-France, Martinique, in 1945, the son of the writer Joseph Zobel. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges, then specialised in ceramics at the international school of Faenza, in Italy.
He settled in the Cévennes, in the village of Générargues near Anduze, a town with a long pottery tradition, and founded his workshop there, Les Cyclades. Alongside his table lamps he made mirrors, sun masks, a humorous bestiary of birds and fish, and stoneware vases, pitchers and tableware, signed « Les Cyclades Anduze » or « Zobel les Cyclades ».
