Jean Derval

Jean Derval (1925–2010) trained in Paris at the École des Arts Appliqués and settled in Vallauris in 1947, alongside Robert Picault and Roger Capron. After two years at the Madoura workshop, he founded his own studio, Le Portail, in 1951, devoted to unique pieces; his work of that period draws on anthropomorphic and zoomorphic forms.
