The glaze is very delicate to the touch. The colours are soft and pastel. The design of this piece makes it a very pleasant decorative object.
The vide poche is signed on the base.
Alexandre Kostanda is a ceramist born in 1924 in Poland. In 1936 he became the apprentice of Louis Giraud in Vallauris. In 1949, he returned to Vallauris to take over the management of Louis Giraud's workshop. Alexandre Kostanda founded his own workshop in 1953. He brings from Cluny stoneware clay that he mixes with the earth of Vallauris. He can then fire his pieces at higher temperatures.
At the time, the ceramics of Vallauris carried by great names like Capron, Derval etc. is shimmering. However, Alexandre Kostanda kept a preference for muted colors, close to the natural tones of the clay. His ceramics, rustic in appearance, surprise by the finesse of their workmanship and the balance of their proportions, revealing the exceptional technical mastery of Kostanda.
